Call

Deadline: 01.12.2011

Reminder: Additional call for proposals National Research Programme «Opportunities and Risks of Nanomaterials» (NRP 64)

The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) launches a second call for full proposals for the National Research Programme "Opportunities and Risks of Nanomaterials" (NRP 64) in the following areas of application: food products and food packaging, consumer products, energy, construction and high risk/high potential projects on innovative nanomaterials.

There will be no pre-proposal step. The full proposals must be submitted via the SNSF Web platform mySNF by 1st December 2011 latest. Two million Swiss francs are available for this second call.

Why a second call?
Most of the projects submitted and selected after the 1st call for proposals fell within the biomedical and environmental areas. Given the broad spectrum of application of nanomaterials, the steering committee of the programme elected to consolidate the portfolio of projects by launching an additional call for interdisciplinary projects.

The programme
The NRP 64 is tailored to identify areas where there is a need for further research to gain a better understanding of the opportunities and possible risks for humans and the environment that may arise from the utilisation of nanomaterials based products.

Research performed in the context of this programme should provide a scientific basis to formulate recommendations for the manufacture, utilisation and disposal of nanomaterials, thereby allowing society to benefit from scientific advances in nanomaterial-based products whilst at the same time protecting consumers and the environment.

Additional information
Detailed information on the modules is available in the programme’s Implementation plan (chapters 3.3, 3.4 and 3.5). Other selection criteria (chapter 3) and the evaluation procedure for the full proposals will also be carried out as described in the Implementation plan (chapter 5.3).
